QUANG NAM – From 17-20 June, 2024, national consultants of the Swiss Tourism for Sustainable Development project in Vietnam (ST4SD) worked with leaders of the Quang Nam provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; the Hoi An City Culture and Information Office; and the Quang Nam Tourism Association.
At the working sessions with leaders of provincial authorities and representatives of local tourism businesses, the ST4SD Project Team Leader Kenneth Wood introduced two experts who would conduct survey and research in Quang Nam as well as presented activities that the project plans to implement in 2024.
The national consultants of the project then shared about their plans to research on the upgrade of the provincial green certificiations and development of sustainable tourism models and products in Cam Ha commune.
In his discussion with the project’s delegation, Van Ba Son – Vice Director of the Quang Nam provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism – talked about challenges on the implementation of the provincial green certifications and hoped that the ST4SD project continued its support to update the set of green tourism criteria to match with international sustainable standards. He also expressed his willingness to assist and accompany with the experts to build sustainable tourism models in Hoi An city.
During this working visit, the experts also conducted surveyed and spoke with representatives of several tourism companies to review and evaluate the provincial set of green tourism criteria as well as learn about sustainable tourism models and products in Cam Ha commune.
Quang Nam is one of the three provinces that ST4SD has selected to implement activities to promote the Vietnam’s tourism more sustainable and inclusive. The project is financed by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and co-implemented by the consortium of Helvetas Vietnam and the Center for Rural Economy Development (CRED).
