HA GIANG – From July 3rd to 8th, 2024, a team of experts from the “Swiss Tourism for Sustainable Development in Vietnam” (ST4SD) project worked with leaders from the Ha Giang provincial Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism; leaders of Quan Ba and Quang Binh districts; the provincial Tourism Association; and representatives of local tourism businesses.
The visit aimed to discuss the implementation plan for a series of activities related to policy development and sustainable tourism development in Ha Giang province.

At the meeting, Mr. Kenneth Wood, the ST4SD project leader, presented the project’s work plan for 2024 and introduced two experts researching models and developing regulations for community tourism and sustainable tourism product development in Khun and Lung Hau villages.

Subsequently, the experts shared their plans for field research and working with businesses and local people, pledging their commitment to accompany the initial phase.
Speaking at the meeting, Ms. Trieu Thi Tinh, Deputy Director of the Ha Giang Department of Culture, Sports, and Tourism, emphasized the importance of the connection between water management, businesses, people, and experts in developing sustainable tourism in Ha Giang. She expressed her hope that the project would support the development of community tourism regulations to be used as a tool to help people change their mindset.

Ha Giang is one of three localities selected by the ST4SD project to implement activities aimed at promoting the sustainable and comprehensive development of Vietnam’s tourism. The ST4SD project is funded by the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and jointly implemented by Helvetas Vietnam and the Centre for Rural Economic Development (CRED).
