07/05/2025

On May 7, 2025, within the framework of Component 2 – Human Resource Development for Vietnamese Tourism under the Swiss Tourism for Sustainable Development in Vietnam (ST4SD) project, Ms. Đặng Phương Anh, Component Manager, and Ms. Trần Thu Hiền, Technical Officer, coordinated a pivotal meeting to launch the initial training courses alongside Master Instructors (MIs) trained and certified by Ecole Hôtelière de Lausanne (EHL), a leading institution in hospitality and tourism management education. The meeting not only outlined the implementation plan for the 2025 training courses but also demonstrated a strong commitment to building a high-quality workforce geared toward sustainable tourism development in Vietnam. This is a significant step in addressing the growing demands of the tourism industry in the context of global integration.

Implementation Plan for Training Courses

During the meeting, a detailed plan for organizing the training courses was finalized with a clear timeline. The project plans to conduct four Foundation courses, with two held in Ho Chi Minh City and two in Đồng Tháp, scheduled for late June 2025. Additionally, one Intermediate course is set for mid-July 2025. The Foundation courses aim to equip learners with essential knowledge and skills, from tourism and hospitality operations to sustainable principles. The Intermediate course will focus on advancing professional expertise, enabling learners to better meet the industry’s complex demands. These courses not only provide practical value but also contribute to building a professional workforce ready to compete in the international market. Organizing courses in both Ho Chi Minh City and Đồng Tháp reflects efforts to expand training opportunities to various regions, ensuring accessibility for diverse learners.

Innovative Teaching Methods

A key highlight of the project is the adoption of modern teaching methods, combining online, onsite, and practical mentorship approaches to optimize the learning experience. Lectures will incorporate interactive activities such as group discussions, real-world case studies, and hands-on exercises to help learners apply knowledge to practical work settings. The MI team plays a crucial role in tailoring content and teaching methods to suit different learner groups, from newcomers to experienced professionals. This innovation not only enhances learning outcomes but also motivates learners, fostering comprehensive skill development.

Group Assignments and Work Organization

To ensure high-quality training, the project has divided responsibilities into four specialized modules, each led by a team of highly qualified MIs:

  • Module 1: Introduction to Sustainable Hospitality Operations, focusing on sustainable operational principles in the tourism and hospitality industry.
  • Module 2: Verbal and Non-Verbal Communication, helping learners communicate professionally with international tourists, for example, guiding guests at a local night market with a friendly demeanor.
  • Module 3: Introduction to Customer Service, concentrating on enhancing customer experiences.
  • Module 4: Hygiene, Health & Sustainable Occupational Practices, addressing safety standards and sustainable practices.

The groups will collaborate both in-person and online to develop lesson plans, with deadlines set for submitting drafts to incorporate diverse professional perspectives from industry experts involved in the training. The project will also coordinate flexible training schedules, allowing learners to choose suitable times, ensuring convenience and efficiency.

This kickoff meeting marks a significant milestone in the 2025 plan for developing Vietnam’s tourism workforce. The close collaboration between EHL, the MI team, and the project management team promises to deliver high-quality training courses that enhance professional capabilities and promote sustainable tourism. With innovative teaching methods, a clear roadmap, and strong coordination, the project not only addresses the industry’s urgent needs but also lays the foundation for long-term development. To ensure success, the project calls for the active involvement of all stakeholders, from learners to supporting organizations, toward the goal of building a professional, sustainable, and globally integrated tourism and hospitality industry.
