Developing SUSTAINABLE TOURISM MODEL

The ST4SD project provides technical support to develop policies and promote sustainable tourism destination and product development in three provinces: Ha Giang (in the northern mountainous region), Quang Nam (along the Central Heritage Road), and Dong Thap (in the Mekong Delta). The provinces were chosen based on local government commitment, alignment with the province’s current tourism development plan, and opportunities to promote sustainable tourism development.

Based on research and evaluations, the project selects to support the development of tourism models suitable for each local condition: community tourism in Ha Giang, agricultural tourism in Quang Nam, and ecological tourism in Dong Thap. In each locality, the project will choose a model site to provide support and then replicate the model to other locations.

The project supports national and provincial tourism management agencies in implementing innovative ideas to promote and communicate sustainable tourism. The project’s innovation program will also collaborate with existing initiatives to optimize effectiveness and create a positive impact on Vietnamese tourism.

Additionally, during the project’s implementation, experts from the Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts (HSLU) will share Swiss expertise in sustainable tourism development and lessons that can be applied in Vietnam.

Model of
Community Tourism in Ha Giang Province

• The project supports the province in building a community tourism model and regulations, as well as developing sustainable tourism products at community tourism villages.
• The project partners with tourism businesses and local households to develop and implement sustainable tourism products, and organizes training courses to raise awareness and enhance tourism skills.

Agricultural Tourism
in Quang Nam Province

Project to support the development and construction of new sustainable tourism models and products aimed at minimizing the overloading situation in Hoi An Ancient Town and contributing to building a green and sustainable destination image in Hoi An.

Model of
Eco-Tourism
in Dong Thap Province

Based on the proposal from the local government, the project will implement support for the development of sustainable products and destinations in Tam Nong District and Sa Dec City. At the same time, the project will organize promotional and communication activities focused on sustainable tourism, emphasizing environmental, social, and cultural values, as well as developing products through the implementation of ideas from the competition.
